A little bit of History...

Minnesota was organized as a territory in 1849. Steele County was split February 20, 1855 from Rice County. It remained attached to Rice County awhile for civil and judicial purposes. At that time, Steele County included all of Waseca County and later the eastern Steele townships were added from Dodge County.
